I was wondering what to write, on this my first blog post, when suddenly C-Span gave me my creative direction. Here’s how it goes. I’m watching a congressman pontificating on C-Span. He’s got a large chart with quotes by Obama. He’s holding up artifacts, pounding the lectern, waving his arms about. Quite theatrical, although absolutely no one is in the chamber. His objective? Complete angst over Obama’s executive orders.
But back to the congressman. He is Representative Rob Woodall, (R-GA, 7th district). I looked him up and sure enough, he’s a charlatan like the rest. In 2011, a constituent of his shared that it’s hard to get healthcare after you retire, when you’ve had employer healthcare for your entire career. What was the good congressman’s response?
“Hear yourself, ma’am. Hear yourself,” Woodall told the woman. “You want the government to take care of you, because your employer decided not to take care of you. My question is, ‘When do I decide I’m going to take care of me?”
Sort of a kinder, gentler admonishment than telling someone to just “Get sick and die.” Ayn Rand would be proud.
So I thank, Rep. Woodall for being a complete jerk, and giving me the material for my first blog post. How thoughtful of Rep. Woodall to remind us that he and his fellow Rs don’t really care about the rest of us.
